The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), based in Sunyani, Ghana, has been ranked in the 1,801 to 2,000 band in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027. Founded in 2011, UENR’s inclusion in the rankings marks a notable development in its efforts to strengthen its position in global higher education. The 2027 Times Higher Education World University Rankings assess 2,297 universities across 118 countries and territories, providing a global benchmark for institutional performance.
Five Ghanaian universities ranked
Five universities from Ghana are included in the 2027 rankings. The University of Cape Coast (UCC) and the University of Ghana (UG) are both included in the 801–1,000 group, whereas the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is placed in the 1,201–1,400 range. The University for Development Studies (UDS) ranks between 1,601 and 1,800, with UENR coming next in the 1,801 to 2,000 range. Based on the published ranking bands, UENR ranks fifth among the Ghanaian universities listed. With UCC and UG both in the 801–1,000 band, Ghana’s five universities are distributed across four ranking bands. UENR occupies the fourth band.
Milestone for a young university
UENR’s appearance in the 2027 rankings is notable given the university’s relatively recent establishment. Established in 2011, UENR has developed into a specialist institution with academic and research activities spanning energy, natural resources, engineering, science, agriculture, and environmental management. Inclusion in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings supports UENR’s efforts to increase academic visibility, research reputation, and international standing. This development places UENR alongside Ghana’s established public universities on a recognized international ranking platform. The 2027 ranking marks both a milestone in UENR’s history and an indication of its growing engagement in the international higher education and research community.
