SUNYANI, Bono Region — Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen KorKor II, Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area, has donated one acre of land in Sunyani to the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) for the establishment of a Claims Processing Centre. The proposal came from a courtesy call by Dr. Victor Ampoe, Chief Executive Officer of the NHIA, at the Sunyanimanhene’s palace on 29 September 2026 as part of his working visit to the Bono Region. Dr. Bampoe was accompanied by Isaac Amponsah, NHIA Bono Regional Manager, and other senior officials.
Sunyanimanhene calls for claims center in Bono Region
Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen KorKor II called on the NHIA to establish a Claims Processing Centre in Sunyani to support the processing and payment of claims from healthcare providers in the Bono Region. To support this request, the Paramount Chief donated one acre of land for the project. He also called for greater decentralisation of NHIA operations, stating that stronger regional offices would improve the Authority’s ability to meet the needs of healthcare providers and scheme beneficiaries.
NHIA CEO congratulates Sunyanimanhene
Dr. Bampoe expressed his congratulations to Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen KorKor II on his recent appointment as Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area and President of the Sunyani Traditional Council. The NHIA chief executive also sought the advice and support of the traditional ruler, noting the Sunyanimanhene’s previous experience with the Authority. Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen KorKor II welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the visit, noting it was an opportunity to reconnect with former colleagues after about 20 years.
Chief commends NHIA leadership
Dr. Bampoe was praised by the Sunyanimanhene for the improvements he had noted in the timely payment of claims since the CEO took office. He commended NHIA leadership for promoting long-serving employees, including drivers, and for renovations at regional offices. The Paramount Chief also praised Bono Regional Manager Isaac Amponsah for his involvement in NHIS registration activities across the region. He said the regional manager’s participation demonstrated a commitment to expanding access to the scheme.
Call to address improper payments
Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen KorKor II urged the NHIA to strengthen measures against illegal payments and improper practices by service providers. He said maintaining the integrity of the National Health Insurance Scheme should remain a priority as the Authority works to improve healthcare access and service delivery. The Paramount Chief advised the NHIA CEO to continue prioritizing employee welfare. He encouraged NHIA staff to support management in achieving the Authority’s objectives and improving health insurance service delivery. The courtesy call formed part of Dr. Bampoe’s working visit to the Bono Region.
