MIM, Ahafo Region — Hon. Sandy Amankwa, Chairman of the Mim Urban Council and Assembly Member for Mim Quarters, has donated 100 bags of cement to Mim Senior High School. The donation is intended to support reconstruction of the girls’ dormitory, which was damaged by a fire on July 13, 2026. The donation will help the school begin rebuilding after the fire destroyed part of the girls’ dormitory and disrupted accommodation for students.

Donation Intended to Accelerate Reconstruction

Speaking to the Victory FM Newsroom, Hon. Sandy Amankwa said the donation reflects his commitment to supporting educational institutions within his electoral area, especially during emergencies. He stated that while government and other authorities have pledged support, the Mim Urban Council is prepared to provide further assistance if needed to keep reconstruction on schedule.

He emphasized that investment in educational infrastructure is necessary to protect students’ welfare and maintain a suitable learning environment. “As leaders, we have a responsibility to stand with our schools during difficult times and contribute to restoring normalcy as quickly as possible,” he said.

Headmaster Commends Timely Intervention

The Headmaster of Mim Senior High School, Mr. James Kodua, expressed appreciation for the donation and described it as a significant boost to the school’s recovery. He explained that following the fire outbreak, the school appealed to government agencies, non-governmental organizations, corporate institutions, and philanthropists for assistance. According to Mr. Kodua, Hon. Sandy Amankwa fulfilled a commitment he made after engaging with the school administration regarding the reconstruction of the damaged facility. He assured the public that the 100 bags of cement would be used exclusively for rebuilding the affected girls’ dormitory. The headmaster also commended Hon. Sandy Amankwa for his ongoing support for Mim Senior High School and education in the municipality.

School Appeals for More Support

Mr. Kodua noted that the school still faces major infrastructure challenges and appealed to the Government of Ghana, corporate organizations, development partners, alumni, and philanthropists for further assistance.

He identified the following priority needs:

  • Construction of a modern assembly hall.
  • Additional dormitory accommodation to reduce congestion.
  • Rehabilitation of the school’s internal road network.

He said the poor condition of the roads is especially problematic during the rainy season, making movement on campus difficult for students, staff, and visitors. He called for urgent action to improve the school’s infrastructure and learning environment.

Community Support Plays a Critical Role

The donation demonstrates the increasing role of local leaders, private individuals, and community stakeholders in supporting educational institutions, especially during emergencies that affect students’ safety and academic activities. School authorities remain hopeful that further support from government agencies, development partners, businesses, and the public will help accelerate the rebuilding of the dormitory and address other urgent infrastructure needs.

Editorial Note

Events like the Mim Senior High School dormitory fire highlight the need for rapid community response to emergencies in educational institutions. While government intervention is important, support from local leaders, organizations, alumni, and philanthropists can speed up recovery and reduce disruptions to students’ education. Investing in safe and resilient school infrastructure is essential for improving educational outcomes in Ghana.
