ACCRA, Ghana — BOSTenergies has donated GH₵1 million to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) to support medical treatment for Ghanaians with severe and chronic illnesses. The donation, presented by BOSTenergies Managing Director Afetsi Awoonor, aims to reduce costs for patients needing specialized treatments such as dialysis, chemotherapy, and major surgeries.
During the presentation, Mr. Awoonor stated that access to essential healthcare should not depend on financial circumstances. He said the donation is intended to help more citizens access critical medical care. He mentioned that this contribution is an investment in the health of our people, their families, and the future of our nation. Mr. Awoonor encouraged other businesses to support similar initiatives, noting the private sector’s role in strengthening Ghana’s healthcare system through partnerships with government and public institutions. He added that increased corporate participation can improve access to healthcare for patients who cannot afford specialized treatment.
Administrator Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, receiving the donation for the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, thanked BOSTenergies for the contribution. She said the donation will support patients who require expensive procedures such as dialysis, chemotherapy, heart surgery, and brain surgery, many of whom face financial barriers to treatment. Darko-Opoku noted that corporate contributions are important for the Fund to provide medical assistance to patients nationwide. She stated that this support brings hope to families who have exhausted every available option in their search for treatment.
She reaffirmed the Trust Fund’s commitment to reducing financial barriers to healthcare and called for more support from corporate institutions, philanthropic organizations, and individuals. According to the Administrator, expanding support for the Fund will allow more patients to access specialized treatment and improve health outcomes across the country. The Fund was established to mobilize financial resources for patients requiring high-cost medical care for severe illnesses. The Fund supports individuals who need specialized treatment but cannot meet the associated costs.
The GH₵1 million donation from BOSTenergies is expected to strengthen the Fund’s capacity to assist more patients and highlights the importance of public-private collaboration in healthcare delivery in Ghana. The contribution also underscores the role of corporate social responsibility in addressing critical national healthcare challenges and expanding access to life-saving treatment for vulnerable citizens.
